HIGHLAND RENAISSANCE RE-ENACTORS GUILD

A Historical Re-enactment Group

The Highland Renaissance Re-enactors Guild (HRRG), an unincorporated, association, was established in 1994. HRRG is a re-enactment troupe that brings to life the Campbell Clan at Renaissance Fairs and Highland Games throughout the State of California. HRRG has also been known to perform at schools and private engagements such as "International Dinners". Additionally, HRRG functions as the Directors of the "Pittsburg Scottish Renaissance Festival".

The leaders of HRRG, Richard and Diane Hills, have been involved in theatre and re-enactment for the better part of their lives. Richard has formal training in stage performing, while Diane focused her attentions to behind the curtain, and directing. The couple attributes their love for re-enactment to their love of the medieval and renaissance time period, having fallen in love with the stories of King Arthur and JRR Tolkien at very early ages.

HRRG is dedicated to the historical study of the Campbell Clan, highland lifestyles and folklore. HRRG re-enacts the glorious time of Robert the Bruce, to the tumultuous time of Mary Queen of Scots. Richard states "The Campbell Clan has a long and notorious history. Whether you see them as being a treacherous Clan, or you know them as being loyal to the Royalty of Scotland, one thing is for certain....they were one of the most powerful Highland Clans." The group brings to life their studies through improvisational theater and their show "Scottish Ghost Stories." HRRG also offers a Children's Highland Games, complete with haggis hurl, stone toss, and caber toss!

The Pittsburg Scottish Renaissance Festival is sponsored by the City of Pittsburg's Department of Leisure Services, HRRG has functioned as directors of this event since it's beginning. This annual event is a permanent fixture to Pittsburg's Summer Festival Series. HRRG focuses their attention to the pages of Scottish history and it is from there that they pull the theme of the festival. "Fun is had by all who attend and you might learn some history too." says Diane.
